What is Skin Nutrients and who is it for?
Skin Nutrients is a comprehensive high-potency multivitamin formula designed by Dr Ben Lynch at Seeking Health, formulated specifically to provide nutritional support for skin health from within. Unlike standard multivitamins, this formula includes targeted nutrients at therapeutic levels while intentionally excluding certain B vitamins (B12, folate, biotin, and B6) that emerging evidence suggests may aggravate skin concerns for some individuals.
This formula is designed for teenagers and adults who want to address skin health through nutritional support, those who have tried topical approaches without success, and anyone looking for a multivitamin that doubles as targeted skin nutrition. It’s particularly suited to individuals experiencing skin changes related to hormonal fluctuations, dietary gaps, or those seeking a foundational supplement that combines daily nutrition with skin-specific support.
Why choose this unique approach?
What makes Skin Nutrients different is what it includes and what it deliberately leaves out. While most multivitamins and skin supplements load up on biotin, B6, folate, and B12, Seeking Health took a different approach. Dr Lynch formulated this product for his own son, and through clinical observation noticed that certain B vitamins may worsen skin concerns for some individuals. By excluding these while providing high doses of nutrients that support healthy hormone metabolism, blood sugar regulation, and antioxidant defence, this formula takes a more targeted approach to skin nutrition.
The formula features premium Albion chelated minerals for enhanced absorption, alongside specialised nutrients like DIM for healthy estrogen metabolism and S-acetyl glutathione for antioxidant support. Rather than just adding random “skin vitamins,” each nutrient serves a specific purpose in supporting the body’s complex skin-related processes.
How does it work?
Think of your skin as the visible result of what’s happening inside your body. Your skin health reflects your hormone balance, blood sugar regulation, liver function, antioxidant status, and nutrient availability. This formula provides nutritional support across all these interconnected systems.
Hormone metabolism support: DIM (diindolylmethane) is a compound your body naturally produces when you digest cruciferous vegetables like broccoli. It supports healthy estrogen metabolism by encouraging the production of beneficial estrogen metabolites. Since hormone imbalances can affect sebum production and skin cell turnover, supporting healthy hormone metabolism through nutrition may contribute to clearer-looking skin.
Blood sugar and insulin support: The formula provides chromium, zinc, vitamin D, and high-dose thiamine (B1) – nutrients that support healthy glucose metabolism. Blood sugar fluctuations can influence skin through various pathways, so maintaining stable blood sugar through proper nutrition supports overall skin health.
Antioxidant protection: Skin faces constant oxidative stress from UV exposure, pollution, and normal metabolic processes. This formula provides vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, riboflavin, royal jelly, and PQQ to support your body’s antioxidant defence systems.
Deep hydration support: High-dose vitamin A (as retinyl palmitate), niacin (500mg), and pantothenic acid (500mg) support the body’s natural processes for maintaining healthy skin hydration and sebum production. Niacinamide in particular supports the skin barrier and is one of the most well-researched nutrients for skin health.
What can this support?
This formula provides nutritional support for:
During adolescence and young adulthood: Teenagers and young adults experiencing skin changes during hormonal transitions can benefit from comprehensive nutritional support while their bodies undergo development.
For hormone-related skin concerns: Adults experiencing skin changes around their menstrual cycle, during perimenopause, or related to hormonal fluctuations may find nutritional support for healthy hormone metabolism helpful.
When standard approaches haven’t worked: If you’ve tried countless topical products without seeing the changes you hoped for, supporting skin health from within through proper nutrition offers a complementary approach.
During dietary transitions or restrictions: When your diet doesn’t include enough variety or you’re restricting certain food groups, a high-potency multivitamin ensures you’re meeting your nutritional needs for healthy skin function.
Supporting stress response: During periods of increased stress (which can affect skin through cortisol and other mechanisms), the high doses of B vitamins and antioxidants help support your body’s stress response systems.
As your daily multivitamin: Rather than taking a separate multivitamin plus skin supplements, this comprehensive formula serves both purposes, simplifying your supplement routine while providing targeted nutritional support.
Common questions
Why doesn’t this contain B12, folate, biotin, or B6?
Dr Lynch intentionally excluded these nutrients based on emerging evidence and clinical observation suggesting they may worsen skin concerns for some individuals. You can still get these nutrients from your diet or add them separately if needed, but this formula gives you the flexibility to control your intake of these specific B vitamins.
Will the high-dose niacin cause flushing?
This formula uses niacinamide (500mg), which typically doesn’t cause the flushing that can occur with nicotinic acid. Most people tolerate this form well when taken with food as directed.
Can I take this if I’m already taking a B complex?
Since this formula intentionally excludes B12, folate, and B6, it may actually complement a B complex well. However, check the doses of the B vitamins that are included (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid) to ensure you’re not getting excessive amounts. Take with breakfast or lunch as recommended, not before bed as the B vitamins may interfere with sleep.
How long before I might notice changes?
Everyone responds differently to nutritional support. Dr Lynch’s observations with teenagers and young adults showed that some noticed changes within weeks, while others took longer. Consistency matters – skin cells turn over approximately every 28 days, so give your body at least 1-2 cycles to see how nutritional support affects your skin.
Is this suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
This product is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to the exclusion of folate and B12, which are essential during these life stages. Seeking Health’s Optimal Prenatal would be more appropriate during pregnancy and lactation.
What about the DIM – is it safe?
DIM is a compound your body naturally produces when you digest cruciferous vegetables. The amount in this formula is comparable to what you’d get from eating several servings of broccoli daily. However, if you’re on hormone-sensitive medications or have hormone-related health conditions, consult your healthcare provider before use.
